The objective of Shelly’s research program is to lead and transform research about weight-related issues like body image, disordered eating (e.g., unhealthy methods of weight change), weight-related disorders (e.g., obesity) and professional conversations and interactions about weight (e.g., weight bias). Shelly has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles and raised over $5M in research funding, including grants from both SSHRC and CIHR. Remarkable in any discipline, this level and breadth of funding is exceptional in an education faculty. She is a thought-leader for the Child Health Initiative Cross-Cutting Research Strategy at the University of Calgary. Shelly has an excellent record of translating research to positively impact school communities and is the recipient of numerous teaching, supervision, and research awards.
