Social Enterprise Program Manager and/or Business Lead, Well at Work

This position is intended as either one (1) full-time contractual position or two (2) part-time contractual positions for a duration of 12 months with possibility of extension, depending on the candidate profiles received. There are two broad components outlined in the Primary Responsibilities. Background 

Well at Work by EdCan supports education leaders across Canada to develop and implement system-wide strategies to improve K-12 workplace wellbeing. It does this through a mix of free and paid services, such as an online learning course (launched on March 31st), an awareness-building platform (ongoing), and Well at Work Advisors (initial offerings launched in November 2021). Well at Work Advisors is a fee-for-service coaching and advising service that builds the capacity of school district leaders and/or teams to identify and address workplace wellbeing issues and build on existing strengths to foster a healthy work environment. The primary clients are school districts/school jurisdictions within Canada, and the secondary clients are provincial Ministries of Education. 

The challenge

With seed funding, Well at Work has launched an initial set of service-based offerings. The next year is pivotal for this initiative, as it is an opportunity to build sustainability, accelerate growth, and integrate the initiative into the EdCan Network’s overall membership structure. With your leadership, business acumen, and strategic insight you have potential to build on early success to establish a successful pan-Canadian social enterprise that supports improved workplace wellbeing for all staff who work in schools. 

The ideal candidate will have an existing track record in leading programs and/or projects in the social impact sector, primarily through social enterprises. They practice servant leadership and have an entrepreneurial spirit.

ROLE OVERVIEW

This position will report directly to the EdCan Network CEO and manage a team of program consultants who are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Well at Work program and have significant subject matter expertise in workplace wellbeing in K-12 education. The role of the Social Enterprise Program Manager and/or Business Lead is to direct, optimize, and coordinate interrelated projects. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Component 1: Program management
  • Align Well at Work with EdCan’s broader organizational objectives 
  • Provide direction and support to Operations Lead, program consultants, and other contractors as needed through clear articulation of responsibilities, one-on-one check-ins, and team meetings
  • Structure team roles and responsibilities to meet growing demand and respond to evolving needs, and review contracts
  • Work emergently by allocating resources strategically to respond to emerging opportunities
  • Maintain record of lessons learned and prepare progress and impact reports to program funders
  • In collaboration with the EdCan CEO, engage with relevant national and provincial stakeholders for partnership and/or fund development
  • Work as part of a team to draft proposals for funding
  • Collaborate with translator, graphic and web designer, marketing team, social enterprise coach, and Membership Relations Consultant to create communications and marketing materials related to Well at Work
  • Provide final approval on communications and marketing materials relevant to Well at Work
  • Prepare, monitor, and report on annual and project-based budgets.
Component 2: Social enterprise / Business planning
  • Lead relevant market research 
  • Develop a finance framework to track financial performance
  • Refine pricing strategy for existing and future offerings
  • Strategically connect EdCan member engagement with Well at Work offerings 
  • Review existing service offerings to refine, improve, and streamline aspects of the services 
  • Map client experience and journey to identify opportunities to develop additional offerings 
  • Create communications and marketing strategy
  • Provide input on team roles and responsibilities to support a growing business
  • Provide input on revenue diversification efforts and the development of fundable concepts in relation to Well at Work
  • In collaboration with the EdCan CEO, engage with relevant national and provincial stakeholders for partnership and/or fund development
REQUIREMENTS
  • A minimum of five years work experience, preferably in the social impact/social enterprise sector 
  • Excellent and experienced program and/or project management skills 
  • Strong financial management skills and business acumen 
  • Strong marketing skills, especially as relevant to service-based businesses
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to lead a team of highly experienced subject matter experts and know when to lead from the front and when to lead from the back
  • Passionate about social impact, with an interest in system transformation in the area of workplace mental health and wellbeing
  • Experience with service-based offerings within education, health or wellbeing is an asset 
  • Strong public speaking skills is an asset
  • Experience with impact measurement and process evaluation is an asset
  • Strong copywriting skills is an asset
  • Ability to speak and write in French is an asset
WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This position can be conducted remote, hybrid, or in-person within Canada. EdCan Network staff members work either fully remote or in a hybrid environment and are mostly based in Toronto. Well at Work program consultants work fully remote part-time in various locations across Canada. The Social Enterprise Program Manager and/or Business Lead will have access to a social enterprise coach to serve as a thought partner, and program consultants with backgrounds in strategy development and operations management.
