The Electronic Recycling Association

Driving Environmental Responsibility and Digital Inclusion Across Canada

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to reducing electronic waste and promoting environmental responsibility while bridging the digital divide. For over two decades, ERA has worked with individuals, businesses, and organizations to collect, refurbish, and redistribute electronics to those who need them most—keeping valuable technology in use and out of landfills.

Charity Tech Donation Program

At the heart of ERA’s mission is their Charity Tech Donation Program, which provides refurbished computers, laptops, tablets, and other devices to charities, schools, and community organizations across Canada. They believe that access to technology is essential for education, employment, and communication. By reusing electronics, they not only reduce environmental impact but also empower communities with tools to learn, work, and connect.

Their donation recipients range from youth programs and immigrant support services to rural schools and shelters. With over 400 charities currently on their waitlist, each donation directly impacts lives while supporting environmental sustainability.

Data Security You Can Trust

ERA understands that donating electronics comes with a responsibility to protect sensitive information. That’s why they offer certified data destruction services—including secure data wiping and physical hard drive shredding—ensuring that all personal and business data is permanently removed before devices are refurbished or recycled. Their processes meet industry-leading security standards, giving donors peace of mind that their information is safe.

Electronics Recycling with a Focus on Reuse

While many recycling programs focus solely on breaking down materials, ERA prioritizes reuse before recycling. This extends the lifespan of devices and maximizes their value for recipients. Items that cannot be refurbished are dismantled and recycled in accordance with ISO-certified environmental standards, ensuring that metals, plastics, and other materials are properly recovered and diverted from landfill.

Annual Kids’ Poster Contest

ERA is also committed to education and youth engagement. Each year, they host their Kids’ Poster Contest, inviting young Canadians to create artwork that promotes the importance of recycling and reusing electronics. This initiative encourages environmental awareness from an early age and inspires future generations to think creatively about sustainability. Winning designs are featured in ERA’s outreach materials, celebrating the voices of young environmental champions.

Scholarship Opportunities

Through the ERA Scholarship Competition, they encourage students to take an active role in environmental stewardship. Participants are invited to collect unwanted electronics from their communities and promote responsible e-waste management. Scholarships are awarded based on collection efforts, outreach initiatives, and creativity in spreading awareness. This program not only provides financial support for education but also fosters leadership skills and a commitment to sustainability.

Building a Sustainable Future Together

From coast to coast, ERA’s work is made possible by individuals, businesses, and communities who share their vision of a greener, more connected Canada. By donating electronics, utilizing their secure recycling services, and participating in their youth programs, Canadians are helping to reduce e-waste, protect the environment, and provide technology to those who need it most.
