Karine Coen-Sanchez

Karine Coen-Sanchez is a PhD Candidate at the University of Ottawa whose research explores the mobilization of social and cultural capital within Canada’s racialized communities. Her work focuses on first- and second-generation Haitian and Jamaican populations, using an innovative framework to analyze resistance and identity multi-positionality. Coen-Sanchez is an activist and organizer, co-developing a Black mentorship program and founding the Anti-Racist Student Association. She has received numerous awards, including the 2023 SWAAC Award and the 2023 Nia Award. Currently, she serves as Co-Chair of SSHRC’s Advisory Committee to Address Anti-Black Racism, advancing equity and systemic change in academia.
