SUMMARY:Aboriginal Education: the Urgency to Act - A candid conversation with the Right Honourable Paul Martin
DESCRIPTION:Former Prime Minister Paul Martin believes that the biggest moral and social issue we face as a country today is education for young Indigenous Canadians. The urgency in addressing this issue is not only of moral imperative – he has been quoted as saying the failure to address the issue is “economically as dumb as a bag of hammers”. \nIn conversation with Canadian Education Association (CEA) President and CEO Ron Canuel\, Mr. Martin will articulate the crucial steps that must be taken to provide Indigenous children the future they deserve. Proceeds from this fundraising event will propel CEA’s ongoing support of the courageous leaders who are working to transform Canadian education\, especially for Indigenous learners. \nThis exclusive event will bring together over 100 Aboriginal\, education\, and corporate leaders with a vested interest in supporting Indigenous student success. Doors open at 6:00pm for a networking cocktail reception hosted by BMO Financial Group. This will be followed by the in-depth 30-minute fireside chat between Mr. Martin and Mr. Canuel\, and then a Q&A session with attendees. \nUPDATE: A NEW BLOCK OF TICKETS HAS OPENED UP. PLEASE CALL\n1-866-803-9549 TO PURCHASE TICKETS. \n \nThe Right Honourable Paul Martin was Prime Minister of Canada from 2003 to 2006 and Minister of Finance from 1993 to 2002. After leaving politics\, Mr. Martin founded the Martin Aboriginal Education Initiative focusing on elementary and secondary education for Aboriginal students and the Capital for Aboriginal Prosperity and Entrepreneurship (CAPE) Fund\, an investment fund investing in Aboriginal business. To find out more please visit www.mai-iam.ca \n \nRon Canuel has been President and CEO of the Canadian Education Association since 2010. With nearly 40 years of experience working in the public education sector\, he has been a frequent presenter\, panelist\, and lecturer at national and international conferences on change management\, innovation in education\, leadership\, and classroom technology integration.
