Join us for a special virtual event focusing on the increasing importance of supporting social-emotional learning (SEL) amidst a global pandemic. This event will feature Avon Maitland District School Board in Ontario, who will be sharing their experience implementing and measuring SEL using Peekapak resources. The flexibility of Peekapak’s SEL in either remote or in-class formats makes it easy for educators to implement. This event is intended to help school administrators support their educators, and it will be recorded and available to all those who register.
“The well-being of children is inseparable from the well-being of the critical adults in their lives.” -Dr. Stuart Shanker
With that important truth in mind, this workshop will help Moms understand and learn how to support their own well-being using the tools of Self-Reg. Self-Reg is a powerful method for understanding stress and managing tension and energy, factors that affect our well-being and functioning as women and mothers.
This six hour workshop, open to educators, parents and specialists, will help participants consider how they could begin to map out some strategies using the tools of Shanker Self-Reg to help a child in their care. It will discuss what participants can do to address their own self-regulation in ways that will enhance their ability to work effectively with the child. Open to everyone! Whether you are a parent, educator, or specialist, whether you are new to Self-Reg or already familiar with it, we’d love to see you there!
Dr. Susan Hopkins, executive director of The MEHRIT Centre, will engage participants, using an inquiry-based design, to explore the relationship between stress, is one of the key unaddressed issues in inclusive special education, and how Shanker Self-Reg can help educators to better understand and support students with special needs.
Self-regulation is now an important concept in Kindergarten education, one of the four frames of early learning in Ontario’s Full-Day Early-Learning Kindergarten curriculum. In this Institute Dr. Susan Hopkins, executive director of The MEHRIT Centre, will present and unpack the concept of self-regulation developed by Dr. Stuart Shanker.
We now understand that the better children can self-regulate, the better they can rise to the challenge of mastering ever-more complex skills and concepts. But what exactly is self-regulation, how does it develop, why do some children and teens struggle with it more than others, and what can we do to enhance its development? This event will explore the answers with Dr. Stuart Shanker.
Stress management is often discussed in terms of adaptive coping. We are taught that stress is a normal part of life and we must learn to cope with it. Yet Self-Reg tells us that stress management is not just a question of coping but also a question of managing energy flow and recovering the energy expended in dealing with stressors. We will explore these topics with Dr. Stuart Shanker.
